I was born and raised in Quebec City, Canada, Yep, French Canadian ! I am now living in Saigon, Vietnam.
In 1975, the Vietnam War was ending and I was 12. Watching the news reports of the withdrawal and the chaos in Saigon, I was wondering where was Vietnam and what the Americans could possibly do there. That was the start of a life long interest and passion about the Vietnam War, his veterans and, later on, the country of Vietnam itself.
I started making artworks with newspapers clippings and photos and adding colors with Prismacolor crayons. I also began to read everything I could possibly put my hands on about Vietnam at the local library. A few years later, when my English was getting better, I start to buy paperbacks books. Then in 1995, I began working with Photoshop and I entered a whole new dimension.
In 2006, I decided it was now time for me to go visit Vietnam and meet the Vietnamese people. I landed in Hanoi, 1 hour later I was walking through its Old French Quarters and let me tell you something : it was a total and very impressive cultural shock, to say the least. But the people were very nice to us, the food was excellent and the scenery was straight out of postal cards !
Since then, I went back 10 times and now I am happily married to a wonderful woman from Saigon and I am living there permanently since January 2019.
Another very important thing happened to me in 2014: the discovery of a very good Facebook page named “Vietnam War History.Org” created by a young military historian from Washington D.C. named Erik Villard. I started posting my artworks on this page and benefited, right away, from the judicious and precious remarks and advices of the veterans, members of this wonderful group. A few months later Erik integrated me into his Admin Team. Now I am proudly the lead admin there and made several good friends and learn, each and every day, more about this very complex conflict that touched, influenced, and in so many cases, hurt so many people and so all over the world.
